Relax, it's not an official release. I'm about to compile a disc collecting all The Smiths' BBC sessions, using the various official releases, and a number of bootlegs, all of which have appeared here. I just want to be sure that I'm using the best-available recording in each case, so any help would be much appreciated. Here's my tracklist, showing sources: John Peel Show, 31 May 1983
Handsome Devil (Peel 31/5/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
Reel Around the Fountain (Peel 31/5/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
Miserable Lie (Peel 31/5/83) [Peel Sessions CDEP]
What Difference Does It Make? (Peel 31/5/83) [Hatful of Hollow] David Jensen, 4 July 1983
These Things Take Time (Kid Jensen 26/6/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
You've Got Everything Now (Kid Jensen 26/6/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
Wonderful Woman (Kid Jensen 26/6/83) [Asleep boot] David Jensen, 5 September 1983
Accept Yourself (Kid Jensen 5/9/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
I Don't Owe You Anything (Kid Jensen 5/9/83) [Sign Here boot]
Pretty Girls Make Graves (Kid Jensen 5/9/83) [The Smiths at the BBC]
Reel Around the Fountain (Kid Jensen 5/9/83) [The Smiths at the BBC] John Peel, 21 September 1983
This Charming Man (Peel 14/9/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
Back to the Old House (Peel 14/9/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
This Night Has Opened My Eyes (Peel 14/9/83) [Hatful of Hollow]
Still Ill (Peel 14/9/83) [Hatful of Hollow] Saturday Live, 14 April 1984
I Don't Owe You Anything (with Sandie Shaw) [Cool About You]
Jeane (with Sandie Shaw) [Cool About You] John Peel, 9 August 1984
William, It Was Really Nothing (Peel 1/8/84) [Last Night... CD single]
Nowhere Fast (Peel 1/8/84) [Last Night... CD single]
Rusholme Ruffians (Peel 1/8/84) [Last Night... CD single]
How Soon Is Now? (Peel 1/8/84) [The Smiths at the BBC] John Peel, 17 December 1986
Is It Really So Strange? (Peel 2/12/86) [Louder Than Bombs]
London (Peel 2/12/86) [own cassette from broadcast]*
Half a Person (Peel 2/12/86) [own cassette from broadcast]*
Sweet and Tender Hooligan (Peel 2/12/86) [Louder Than Bombs] *I think these sound a bit better than the recordings on the Wonderful Woman boot, but I will check once more before finally compiling. Unofficial tracks are bold. Thanks in advance for any help.

I Don't Owe You Anything (Kid Jensen 5/9/83)
- I recently found another version of this track on akiraware.com. Download the bootleg ICA Rock Week 1983, track 15. The quality is about the same but includes the beginning of the track which is cut off on some sources. Obviously this download is mp3 and you would need this from a lossless source before compiling a CD. For How Soon Is Now? (Peel 1/8/84), there is also a good quality version on the "Reel Around The Fountain" bootleg. This and The Smiths at the BBC version are both very good quality, but not clean :( I have an excellent sounding version of London (Peel 2/12/86), it was taken from a bootleg called "Demos and Rarities 1983-1987". I would upload the bootleg here , but it is incomplete with official tracks and Sandie Shaw Saturday Live Tracks missing. I'll try and sort something out for you if you want the track. All the recordings of Half A Person I've heard were pretty poor, so your cassette recording may be better than the version on "Wonderful Woman". Also, has anybody heard a really good version of Wonderful Woman (Kid Jensen 26/6/83), if so which bootlegs is it on?

That's a great idea to compile the ultimate collection of BBC session tracks. What do you make of this recording of Half A Person? Find it here: [url]http://rapidshare.com/files/2272640/Half_A_Person.flac.html [/url].

The recording's not bad, a slight improvement on what I had heard previously. Thanks, where did you get it from? If anybody is interested, here is the link to download the version of London I referred to in my other post: http://rapidshare.com/files/2277528/London.flac

Thanks for the link. If your recording of "Half A Person" is similar in quality to this version of "London", you have a pretty good copy yourself. The file I put up is actually a composite version. The body of the song is that found on the "Final Gig" bootleg CD. To this I have added the complete guitar intro + the longer outro from the version on the "Wonderful Woman" bootleg CD.

Thanks for these - will compare them with my original broadcast tape and share that if it's better. The local motorcyclist (who simply wrecked my teenage years) did put in an appearance at one point during this session and interefered with the FM reception, but I can't remember whether it was during London or Half a Person, or one of the other songs.

This sounds interesting! Can anyone provide a complete and lossless recording of this one?
Also, has anybody heard a really good version of Wonderful Woman (Kid Jensen 26/6/83), if so which bootlegs is it on?
The only one I'm aware of appears on the Wonderful Woman boot.

I thought it sounded like the version off "Wonderful Woman", but a bit better. Now I know why, nice work :D Also, out of interest on that "ICA Rock Week 1983" bootleg there are some interviews with the band and less good copies of Accept Yourself and Pretty Girls Make Graves session tracks. At last! My 100th post!!! 8)

A great idea. I have a 2CD set of radio sessions which I received in a trade 10 years ago. I'll send you a PM with a link. Anyone got that ICA Rock Week 1982 bootleg in lossless?

Oh, I should take more time to read all the posts more carefully. I thought that YOU had "Half A Person" in the same quality as "London". But thanks anyway, that version of HAP also sounds very good!
