This is a 24th anniversary special. What were you doing 24 years ago? I was up at Leicester Poly with a tape recorder, a pack of Duracells and a blank SA 90. I thought I'd give SmithTorrents a chance to hear the results before I seed it on Dime. This is for Jerry's cricket mates - you know who you are.
I was lucky enough to see The Smiths a fair few times, but this was the third and last time I taped them. After this things got a bit too hectic for me. This was a date on their first proper tour - organised to promote the 'This Charming Man' single. This gig was heaving compared to the Smiths gigs I'd been to before this. The band were just starting to break through to a much bigger audience and could do no wrong. I couldn't get near the front - too noisy and too much jumping and dancing. The band clearly seemed to enjoy it and came back for three encores - so who am I to judge?
The 'Passions' site says that copies of a tape of this gig are in circulation. Not sure if it's mine but I definitely sent a copy to a girl who was there and asked for a copy because she saw me taping. Anyone that's willing to go up to a stranger and ask for a copy deserves one because, in my eyes at last, they're showing that they're a real fan. Mind you, I made her send me a blank tape. I also gave copies to RW and NT - good mates of mine who were students in Leicester and at the gig with me.
As well as a jpeg of the advert for the gig i've included a scan of my original 'This Charming Man' poster and some artwork for the CD.
