The Smiths
Beacon Theater, New York City NY
18 Jun 1985
In 1993 a single disc bootleg CD came out, "I Suffer" (Rock Calendar Records RC 2116), filled to the rim with 18 tracks from an audience recording of this concert, the second of two nights at the Beacon Theater in New York City. In the fall of 2001 dgk posted shn-files made directly from his master cassette recording to one of Usenet's lossless bootlegs newsgroups. Because this master recording doesn't seem to be circulating very widely, I'm now offering it here.
I didn't keep the original info-file, but I still have the scan of the ticket stub.
The sound editing referred to in the lineage info below concerns a drop-out around the 7 minute mark in Barbarism Begins At Home, which I have fixed in order to ensure a smooth listening experience for all you poetic librarians.
lineage: dgk's master AUD recording -> shn -> wav -> normalization in Cool Edit -> CD-R -> EAC -> wav -> editing with Adobe Auditiion -> FLAC (level 8/verify/align on sector boundaries) -> EZT/DIME -> you
I'd rate this audience recording a solid 8/10!
1. intro 0:42
2. Meat Is Murder 6:54
3. The Headmaster Ritual 4:34
4. Reel Around The Fountain 5:45
5. Shakespeare's Sister 2:16
6. Nowhere Fast 2:36
7. I Want The One I Can't Have 3:32
8. This Charming Man 3:06
9. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore 4:30
10. Stretch Out And Wait 3:15
11. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now 3:19
12. What She Said 2:55
13. Still Ill 4:20
14. How Soon Is Now? 5:15
disc 2 - the encores
1. intro 0:35
2. William (It Was Really Nothing) 2:08
3. Hand In Glove 3:36
4. Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want 2:22
5. Rusholme Ruffians 4:17
6. Miserable Lie 5:15
7. Jeane 3:37
8. Barbarism Begins At Home 12:24
Enjoy!

Yeah, really nice. Thanks for spending some time editing it.
How I'd love to have been there for that 12 minute epic of Barbarism. Sounds like everyone was having fun, although Mike seemed to screw up the last bar - tsk!
Nice version of HSIN too. The different guitar tone really changes the feel of the track.

Akiraware - You are right - the 12 minute Barbarism is insane...!
Still having some bandwith issues - seems as though my ISP provider (Cablevision) throttles my bandwidth (when they detect P2P activity), so rebooting and cooling off P2P for about 20 minutes or so seems to restore my speed. So please bear with me...!
