The Smiths
Arsenal Catalonian TV special
1985 - Barcelona
Broadcast 4 October 1985
duration: 56'46"
This is particularly for user killme8 who requested it, but it's here for everyone to pick up!
Torrent created on 20 June 2007

Release Notes
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These notes are not mine, but they came with the DVD:
This programme made for Spanish, or rather Catalonian, TV show "Arsenal" (which on another occasion hosted The Chameleons, who also make a cameo performance here; The Chameleons show has been officially released) intersperses concert footage (full songs!) recorded on 16 May 1985 at the Studio 54 in Barcelona, with interview sections featuring Morrissey & Marr.
Both sound and vision could be better, I guess, but this is all I've got and if anyone can improve on it, be my guest! Anyway, this is a cool programme and it is certainly watchable and listenable.
I did not do the original video transfer, but I did make a nice menu (I think), complete with background music (woo-hoo!). Check out the screenshots!
One last note: the producers of the "Arsenal" series seem to have had a strange preference for some kind of stuttering effect (those who have seen the Chameleons programme should know what I mean!), so when the interview bits start, you shouldn't feel the need to adjust your set: that's how it was meant to look & sound!
This is what it's all about:
1. intro
2. Montagues & Capulets
3. Hand In Glove
4. Handsome Devil
5. Johnny Marr
6. This Charming Man
7. Morrissey
8. Barbarism Begins At Home
9. Punk in Manchester
10. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
11. How Soon Is Now?
12. The music industry
13. Manchester music scene
14. Rusholme Ruffians
15. The Headmaster Ritual
16. Sandie Shaw
17. Hand In Glove (feat. Sandie Shaw)
18. Musical peers
19. Music videos
20. Punk Industry - What I Wouldn't Give
21. Miserable Lie
22. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
And here are the technical details for all you video geeks out there:
Encoding mode: High Quality (2-Pass VBR)
Video mode: NTSC
Aspect ratio: 4:3
Quality: Standard play (5073 kbps)
Resolution: 720 x 480 (CCIR-601 D1)
Video Type: Interlaced MPEG2
Video Bitrate: 9.640 Mbps
Audio Type: Dolby Digital (AC-3) 2.0
Audio Bitrate: 256 Kbps
... but don't let that put you off. Enjoy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes from PassionsJustLikeMine.com

It was pointed out at the time of the original seed on Dime that the programme wasn't shown on Basque TV, but Catalonian. My mistake :blushes:

Not to rain on your parade, but this is part of the "Live in Europe" DVD made by the good people at Soundsville and probably an upgrade to this version. Again, didn't want to spoil your torrent but I did want to point that out.

I also have a 40m version of this, that was re-broadcast in 2001, direct from the master. I'm sure I'll get round to unploading that at some point

I am aware of this, but I don't think the "Live In Europe" version is better. They look pretty much the same quality. And the total file size is bigger on the one I put up, so there might be some sort of advantage there. It also has a nice chapter menu.
Steve: I would be curious to see that 40 min rebroadcast... maybe when you're done with the Queen Is Dead tour bootlegs?
