//Bigmouth Strikes Again We weren't quite sure what to expect after the dissapointment of Preston and the subsequent cancellation, but having come back to London we decided to take a day trip to Manchester rather than stay overnight. So we arrived at the venue in the evening after the doors had opened. Security looked heavier than usual. I'd not been to the Free Trade Hall before, so maybe that was normal ... but I suspect not. Still I got my tape deck in no problem, and we went up to the balcony, on the right hand side. Security was even more in evidence inside, and they were scanning the crowd ... looking for trouble-makers no doubt, but we'd have to be careful recording. The Smiths were in great form. They'd changed the set around and Morrissey seemed to be in quite an aggresive mood. I switched the recorder on, but had little chance to check the levels. It turned out I'd left them rather low, which I suppose is better than distorting everything. The tape is very quiet ... but increasing the volume in Wavelab doesn't seem to have introduced very much noise. This is the first time this recording has been transfered to digital from the master tape. I was recorded on my Walkman professional onto Chrome tape using a Sony Mic.
