Had a major scare this morning, my "P" drive had failed overnight. My "P" drive was holding all my "The Smiths" concerts along with all my "The Jam" concerts along with all my "Woodstock '69" music. To say I was gutted was a severe understatement
However after an hour or so of messing about with the drive, I have managed to get it working to a degree. Hopefully long enough to move all my concerts to another drive. We shall see :|

Good luck recovering everything! Harddrive failures are always upsetting, especially when there's the possibility of losing so much music. I've had the same thing happen to me though mine was unrecoverable. Now I keep all my important shows on external harddrives but also back up to DVDR every 4GB or so.

Managed to get all my music of the drive. I'm a happy camper again, albeit down 400GB of hard drive space :)

I know it takes up space, but I keep hard copies of all my torrents. I dont bother with jewel cases for most of 'em, but do use plastic sleeves. It saves TONS of space:

I never wanna lose my music!!

Don't you ever get cyclic redundancy check errors? I back up some stuff but DVD errors make me nervous.

Same thing happenned to me a few days ago. My 160GB Maxtor fell down.
And there were 60GB of Smiths on it. Heaven knows I'm miserable now.
Haven't tried any recovery yet, but I'm not trying to get my hopes up at all.
/edit2008-09-01 : Tried recovery today, and - much to my surprise - I managed to recover most of the shows, two weren't recovered at all, and three or four with little errors. So I'm not miserable anymore, I'll just download the missing/damaged ones again. :)
BTW. If anybody ever has a similar problem, I've used Winternals Disk Commander. Awesome application.

Thats the problem with technology...it doesn't always work. Which is dead infuriating when you need to keep precious files. Glad you sorted it out.
