Interesting, maybe TQID is the Smiths album which is the most popular with non-Smiths fans?
Keep those top 5s coming.....

This is just because I had to, in reality I like them all equally.

Here's a question; those that rate Strangeways so highly, are you Morrissey fans first, Smiths fans second - ie did you get into the Smiths after you liked Morrissey's solo work or do you prefer his solo stuff to the Smiths?
I like Strangeways but for me it's closer musically to Viva Hate than it is to any of the previous Smiths albums.

I agree with the Flea. But it all depends which mood I'm in etc etc
1. Hatful Of Hollow
2. The Smiths
3. The Queen Is Dead
4. Strangeways Here We Come
5. Meat Is Murder
Though I still prefer a live recording over studio albums when it comes to The Smiths (Scotland tour, tours around 1984 are sublime!!)

As for me, I like Morrissey's solo work and The Smiths's work equally. They are too different from each other to decide between them. I prefer SHWC because my favorite songs are in it.

Viva Hate is the only Morrissey album i like. Still i've not bought any since Kill Uncle and not heard any since Vauxhall and I. Not been impressed by any of the singles or songs since though. The Smiths are my favourite band by a country mile but i buy a lot of different stuff these days.

Hard to say, actually. The Smiths have been introduced to me first, actually, it was The Queen Is Dead, Louder Than Bombs and Meat Is Murder (got these from a friend of mine). What's quite interesting is that I've steered away from Strangeways, Here We Come for quite a long time, but I guess that it's my favorite because of the diversity when it comes to the music, which is not audible on any other Smiths record.
Am I a Morrissey fan? Sure, but I've never really liked Viva Hate - my favorites when it comes to the MozzMan are Vauxhall and I and Ringleader of the Tormentors.
So I guess there's no correlation, but hey, I may be just very wrong. :)
Oh, and Strangeways, Here We Come contains the Smiths song that I always put on the first place - Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me.

Meat is Murder introduced them to me.
I understand why TQID is considered the superior of all the albums but I preferred MIM over TQID.
I just love the Morrissey from the old Hand in Glove era and beyond, so theres my top choice.
Strangeways, I particularly love Death at One's Elbow for some reason.
Maybe it's the catchy, "Oh Glen" and the harmonica.
But Death of a Disco Dancer, I do believe that is a highlight of The Smiths at their best.
1. The Smiths
2. Strangeways, Here We Come
3. Meat Is Murder
4. The Queen Is Dead
5. Hatful of Hollow

I quite like Death At One's Elbow too but then again i'm the one person who likes Golden Lights
Probably the only Smiths album track i don't like is Never Had No-one Ever, boring music and repetitive lyrics in my humble.

You've got to be kidding me! I used to listen to it repeatedly for two weeks, I think, and I just couldn't get enough. I Know It's Over is also a top track.
Not to mention There Is a Light That Never Goes Out. Is there anybody who doesn't like this song?
