Disclaimer: this is a different source from JohnCleese's recording found here:John Cleese
This was Edinburgh's first chance to witness the Smiths on the back of their rising popularity, John Peel's continued support
and their early single releases.
Coasters (a roller disco at the time) was a popular venue back then holding around 800 people, I don't think it was sold out but it couldn't
have been far off it as it was very busy. My stance was at the rear of the hall, just in front of the mixing desk and away from the main
thoroughfare which was my favoured location at that venue, the sound on the night was good and my recording turned out fine.
The audience was a mix of avid fans and curious onlookers (you can clearly hear the thoughts of one non-fan after the first song!) but
on the whole it was a pretty lively audience (for Edinburgh anyway) even though there wasn't much stage invading going on.
My recorder was 3 years old and although it still produced perfect stereo recordings, the motor was getting a bit fragile
hence you might notice a few tape wobbles during 'what difference and reel around' as I prepared for the tape flip (I've levelled out
some of the wobbles a bit during this transfer).
Other points of note, all songs are complete, vocals improve after HIG after a bit of mic angle adjustment, I cut out the audience
during encores by pausing the tape hence you can hear a rumble when the button was pressed, no fade in or out at start / finish.
I traded this tape virtually from the day it was recorded but as I stopped trading altogether in the late 80s, any copies out there
at the moment must be ones derived from these early transfers done 25 years ago. Only now have I got round to digitally re-mastering
it and I've given it a few minor EQ tweaks to freshen it up a bit, so what you've got here is the first ever direct from the master,
digital transfer of my recording - which has never been distributed or circulated anywhere until now.
Enjoy.

What a nice surprise! Great to see a new master.
I'm travelling at the moment but look forward to hearing it when I return.
Are there any more from this source?
